瓶中装满水晃不响，装半瓶水时一晃就响，一知半解的人，多不谦虚；见多识广者，常常低调。
When a bottle is filled with water it does not ring and when half a bottle of water is filled with water it rings. The well-informed often keep a low profile.
换句话说，渊博的人谦虚寡言，而浅薄的人却偏偏爱显示夸耀。
In other words learned people are modest and taciturn while shallow people show off.
刘邦和项羽就是很好的例子。

刘邦率兵驻扎高阳，有一天，他传见郦食其，可当郦食其急匆匆地来到刘邦的住所，却发现侍女正在给他洗脚。

刘邦听郦食其这样一说，感到自己确实不应该这样接见贤者。
Hearing Lishiqi's remarks Liu Bang felt that he really should not meet the sage in this way.
于是，急忙揩脚穿鞋，正衣整冠，从床上起来，恭恭敬敬地请郦食其上坐，感谢他的提醒。
So hurriedly wiped his feet and put on his shoes straightened his tiaras got up from bed and respectfully invited Li Shi Qi to sit down to thank him for his reminding.
刘邦作为一军首领，知晓错误就立马改正，这本身就是一种谦虚。
As a military chief Liu Bang corrected his mistakes immediately when he knew of them which in itself is a kind of modesty.
他的态度，不但赢得了郦食其的尊重，而且赢得了许多人才的佩服，如萧何、韩信等。
His attitude not only won the respect of Lishiqi but also won the admiration of many talents such as Xiao He and Han Xin.
在这些人才的辅助下，刘邦最终成就帝业。
With the help of these talents Liu Bang finally achieved his imperial career.
反观项羽，尽管有“力拔山兮气盖世”的英雄气概，势力也远远大于刘邦，但他“自矜功伐，奋其私智而不师古”，骄傲自大，刚愎自用。
Xiang Yu on the other hand although he had the heroic spirit of "pulling down mountains with great strength" and his power was far greater than That of Liu Bang he was "self-possessed courted his private wisdom rather than learning from the ancient" arrogant and self-willed.
事事但凭一己之勇，不肯听从部下的意见，以致许多有才能的人如陈平、韩信等，离楚归汉，甚至连他最亲近的谋臣范增也被逼走。
