We sat down next to each other but David wouldn’t look at me. I said gently and quietly “No one can change your mind except yourself. Don’t care about others’ thoughts. ” He sat still with a deep breath. “You practiced a lot before this event which is why you show up here today” I added. Hearing my words David turned to me with tears in his eyes telling me he did make a firm determination to finish the cross-country run and he would stick to it. Just then his coach walked over and heard what David said. He gave David a look---the kind that was approving and encouraging.

I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. The race started. It seemed that the runway was especially long for David who ran forward with all his strength. Suddenly he was tripped over . However he picked himself up again and continued his mission rather than give up halfway . The other students didn’t laugh at him; instead they cheered him up “Come on! You can make it! ” they shouted enthusiastically. To everyone’s joy he completed the race，ranking the 20th. After reaching the final line David walked over to me and hugged me tightly expressing his gratitude to me for the support and encouragement offered to him . At that moment I felt really proud of David a boy with a brain disease in his body. That day he was a little hero in my heart.
