Last July I gave advice to a cousin who was hesitating between universities to select after her college entrance examination. She did not do too well in the exam and therefore she received a relatively low score plus her parents weren’t too supportive of her decision to go to university.
I first asked her about her interest target major and preferred cities then helped to collect university information for her decision-making. After that I suggested that she take this opportunity to have a heart-to-heart talk with her parents to gain their support. However she said she was too embarrassed for such a talk face to face or on the phone and eventually we crafted a message together and she sent it to her dad.
I gave the advice because I know how important a university degree is in today’s workforce market. Another reason is that my cousin just like me when I was her age is not very communicative towards her parents. I didn’t like the feeling and I don’t want her to go through the same thing I did.
Now she has just finished her first year in university and she is much more outgoing than before so I’m extremely happy for her!
