一、　二者都有“太，非常”之意，much too为副词词组，修饰形容词、副词，不可修饰动词。中心语是too 这里的much只是加强了too的程度。

　　如：　It’s much too cold。

天气实在是太冷了。

还有许多是too…… to结构，不过是too的前面加了一个表示程度在too的正常程度基础上再多一点、再增强一点的含义。

I’m much too tired to go out.

我实在累得不能出去了。

I’m afraid my husband is much too busy to see visitors.

很遗憾，我丈夫实在太忙，不能会见客人。

实战：

——Let’s have dinner in the dining room

解法分析：

too much和much too的中心语都是后面的那个词，那么假设A为正确答案，那么先省去前面的too 看看句意是否通顺，带入后发现句子含义并不通顺，所以A秒排除，那么可以直接秒选B，没有问题。此题为托福试题，不过如此。

其实，我们在任何时候拿不准用too much还是 much too，都可以用省略前词代入法来解决。

用同样的方法来解下面的高考题，也是秒解答案：

Allen had to call a taxi because the box was _____ to carry all the way home.

A. much too heavy B. too much heavy

C. heavy too much D. too heavy much

以上二题答案： B，A

　二、　too much作“太多”讲，too作为much的修饰语，表示超越了much的正常程度。

有以下三种用法：

(1)作名词词组。如：

You have given us too much. 你给我们的太多了。

(2)作形容词词组修饰不可数名词。如：

Don’t drink too much wine. 不要饮太多的酒。

(3)作副词词组修饰不及物动词。

如：You’re asking too much.你问得 太多了。

She talks too much. 她说话太多。

这时候，也要多一个心眼，也有许多是too…… to结构，不过是too的前面加了一个表示程度在too的正常程度基础上再多一点、再增强一点的含义。如下面的四级考题：

这一题，用上面的省去前词代入法似乎不好用，那就考虑一下：too…… to结构，往往就会迎刃而解，选A.

此题一看就是too much 和much too之间做出选择；
