这是一首讽刺诗,是写给诗人的朋友托马斯的。托马斯常常为自己选择的路而后悔,认为自己本可以作出更好的选择。这首诗的含义其实是,两条路都是一样的,选择并没有人们想的那么重要或影响巨大,人们也不必为做出的选择而叹息悔恨。但是弗罗斯特失望地发现读者包括托马斯都没能意识到这种讽喻意义。
