1. trick or treat 不给糖就捣乱

Trick-or-treating is a customary [习惯上的] celebration for children on Halloween. Children go in costume [特定的服装] from house to house asking for treats such as candy or sometimes money with the question "Trick or treat?" The word "trick" refers to "threat" to perform mischief [恶作剧] on the homeowners or their property [所有物] if no treat is given.

“不给糖就捣乱”是孩子们在万圣节惯用的庆祝方式。孩子们穿着奇装异服，挨家挨户要糖吃，有时候也会要钱，问房主：“想要我捣乱还是给糖吃？”“捣乱”这个词的意思是“威胁”，如果不给糖，就要对房主或房主的房屋或财产搞恶作剧。

注释：trick or treat押头韵，读起来朗朗上口，类似的例子还有safe and sound（安然无恙），black and blue（青一块紫一块），rules and regulations（规章制度）等等。
