这幅画中的模特叫简·莫里斯，是威廉·莫里斯（英国设计师、诗人、早期社会主义活动家；拉斐尔前派重要成员）的妻子，简·莫里斯经常为罗塞蒂的绘画摆pose。当年画这幅画时，罗塞蒂正与简秘密进行着不正当恋情！The sitter for this painting was Jane Morris the wife of William Morris who often posed for Rossetti. At the time this was painted Rossetti was involved in an illicit love affair with Jane.
画中的简·莫里斯坐在梧桐树的树枝上，手里拿着一枝金银花。在维多利亚时代，这种气味芬芳的植物是爱情的象征，罗塞蒂正是借此表现其与模特之间微妙的关系。同时罗塞蒂作为诗人，也为简创作一首同名诗，原文如下（标黄部分）： He shows her sitting in the branches of a sycamore tree and holding a sprig of honeysuckle. This sweet-smelling climbing plant symbolized the bonds of love for the Victorians and Rossetti may have included it here as a subtle reference to the relationship between artist and model. Rossetti was also a poet and the title relates to his poem of the same name that ends: She dreams; till now on her forgotten book Drops the forgotten blossom from her hand.
