泰戈尔是印度著名的诗人、哲学家、艺术家、社会活动家，1913年获诺贝尔文学奖，是亚洲获得诺贝尔文学奖的第一人。
他一生共写了50多部诗集，12部中长篇小说，100多篇短篇小说，20多部剧本及大量文学、哲学、政治论著，代表作有《吉檀迦利》、《飞鸟集》和《新月集》等。
即便有人没有读过他的作品，应该也能诵读其中的诗句，尤其那句最著名的“生如夏花之绚烂，死如秋叶之静美”。
