Elvis Presley 即猫王（1935.1.8-1977.8.16），摇滚乐史上影响力最大的歌手，有摇滚乐之王的誉称，20世纪50年代，猫王的音乐开始风靡世界。他的音乐超越了种族以及文化的疆界，将乡村音乐、布鲁斯音乐以及山地摇滚融会贯通，形成了具有鲜明个性的独特曲风，强烈的震撼了当时的流行乐坛，并让摇滚乐开始如同旋风一般横扫了世界乐坛。
1955年，他的一曲《伤心旅馆》不仅倾倒黑人，而且也受到白人的喜爱。猫王那忧郁的形象，把无数白人青少年引向了摇滚音乐。
他大红大紫的时候，也是他悲哀的开始。这一年，他在全美国东奔西跑地演出，行程几万公里。由于缺少睡眠，他在神经上受到了损害，记忆力下降(猫王生平记忆力惊人，小时候能从收音机里记下所有的歌词，让双亲感到吃惊，1977年6月，猫王最后一次在拉皮德城举行演唱会时，连《温柔地爱我》歌词都记不起来了)。他也是孤独、酒精和毒品的受害者。
1977年他去世了，当时他才42岁。他一生中共录制了各种歌曲720首，开了1600多场演唱会，平均每两天半就有一场。他太疲倦了。
