门萨的英文名称是“MENSA”，是拉丁语中“圆桌”的意思。门萨取自圆桌的意思就是希望人们能够平等的坐在一起，当然前提是智商相近。门萨是世界顶级智商俱乐部的名称，于1946年成立于英国，创始人是律师罗兰德·贝里尔和科学家兼律师兰斯·韦林。当时，这两位自认聪明异常的人突发奇想，编制出一些高难试题以测试智商，受到广泛追捧。兴奋之余，贝里尔和韦林干脆成立一个俱乐部，号召高智商的人士加入。他们有意为聪明者建立一个社团，通过充满挑战性的社团活动而使参加者的高智商获得承认、肯定和不断提高，并分享彼此的成功。门萨多年来坚持中立和非政治、非营利的原则，至今不变。门萨国际总部和各俱乐部也组织一些收费的活动，以及一些出版活动，但收入全部用于俱乐部的拓展和完善。所有参与者个人不获利。门萨云集了全球100多个国家中智商top 2%的天才，最小的会员入会时还不到3岁。

想成为其会员的唯一标准就是在它的高难度智商测试中获得极高分。门萨有专门的测试试卷，一般有30题，答对23题（换算成智商是148）才可以加入。

Mary Poppins
