Mistakes are inevitable in our life and the word “mistake” is not the only option when something wrong happens. You dropped the ball but you can still describe the misstep perfectly.
1. Bug [bʌɡ]
这个词大家再熟悉不过了,oh it’s a bug——电脑出了个bug,软件出了个bug;But it can usually be fixed in a short time,通常问题不大,很快能修好。
2. slipup ['slɪpˌʌp] n.
Def: A slip-up is a small or unimportant mistake.
3. gaffe[ɡæf] n.
Def: A gaffe is a stupid or careless mistake for example when you say or do something that offends or upsets people.
E.g. He fell to the ground and made an embarrassing gaffe at the convention last weekend.
4. flub [flʌb] n/v.
Def: an act or instance of making a mess of something
搞错
E.g. Come on the textbooks are littered with flubs
5. botch [bɑtʃ] V.
Def: If you botch something that you are doing you do it badly or clumsily
E.g. Oh you botch it! The solar panel can not be installed in this way.
6. flop [flɑp] n.
Def: If something is a flop it is completely unsuccessful.
E.g. It is the audience who decide whether a film is a hit or a flop.
