院子里，母亲在缝制自己的寿衣

一针一线，死亡顿时变得平常

像母亲不太好的针线活

我想同她说说话

但又觉得说什么都不合适

她缝得很认真

歪歪斜斜的针脚

让我觉得她比平日里可亲许多

此刻，那最终要到来的

她没有回避

而是告诉我该怎样迎接

这减缓了我内心里的痛楚

——哦，死是那根线

终要穿过每一个针眼

而当她不知该怎样缝下去时

就仰头看看天

仿佛她早已故去的母亲就在那里

而她扎着两条小短辫，仰着脸

接受着隔世的训导

Mother

In the yard mother is sewing a shroud for herself.

Working with a needle and a thread death suddenly feels common.

Mother’s needlework is below par

just like me not very good with words

wishing but can’t find the right things to say to her.

She is really focused on her sewing

and her crooked stitches

make me feel closer to her than other times.

This moment that must eventually come

she does not evade

but tells me how to welcome it.

That eases the pain in my heart.

——Oh death is the thread

that will one day pass through every needle’s eye.

And when she finds stitching too hard to continue

she would look up at the sky

as if seeing her own long-lost mother

as if she was a little one with two short braids face up

to learn the ways of the next world.
