世界上最大的企鹅是帝企鹅，身高1米有余。而出没于南太平洋的小蓝企鹅身高不到它们的一半，是世界上体型最小的企鹅。小蓝企鹅是企鹅家族里唯一具有蓝色羽毛的种类，身高一般在43厘米左右，体重约为1千克，出没于南澳大利亚、新西兰及智利的海岸。
