"Zhengzhou is a city with integrated traditional and modern elements"

"Chinese characters reflecting Chinese culture history aesthetics and values are the embodiment of the Chinese spirits " said Meng Man a professor of Minzu University of China and a judge of the final. She also said that in addition to the practicability Chinese characters convey the wisdom of Chinese people thus we should inherit such Chinese civilization.

"With the popularization of electronic products we can easily type Chinese characters on the screen. But regardless of the convenience there are spiritual and aesthetic pursuits for the Chinese characters." Meng Man believes that no matter how ubiquitous electronic products become there are always people who persevere in writing Chinese characters.

Meng Man who has been to Henan several times is very familiar with the Central Plains. Oracle bone inscriptions an early form of Chinese characters became mature in Shang Dynasty (approximately from BC 1600 to BC 1046) and were first found in Yinxu (ruins of the capital city of the Shang Dynasty) in Anyang Henan Province. Thus Henan is believed to be the origin of Chinese characters. Located in the central region of ancient China Henan was the political and cultural center of ancient China for a long time. The culture of the central plains represented by Henan is not only the source but also the core of Chinese civilization.

In Meng Man's eyes Zhengzhou is both an ancient and modern city. "It is ancient because it's the cradle of Chinese civilization. It is modern because it's always full of fresh energy. It is a city integrating traditional and modern elements."
