Vain jackdaw
Zeus announced that he intended to appoint a bird king to rule over the flock. He had all the birds appear before him at the appointed time and he would choose the most beautiful one as the ruler of the flock. The birds in order to look their best went down to the river to dress themselves and preen their feathers.
The jackdaw rested with the birds by the brook. He knew that his feathers were so ugly that he had no chance of choosing one. So when all the other birds were gone he picked up the brightest feathers that had fallen glued them to himself and made himself more beautiful than any other bird. When the appointed day came the birds gathered before the throne of Zeus. After some inspection Zeus was ready to make the jackdaw king of birds. At this point other birds attacked the would-be king pecking away the jackdaw's false feathers and revealing the jackdaw's true colors.
With the help of other people's things you will only get the illusion of beauty. When the things that originally do not belong to you are stripped off they will be revealed.
