Purging means the introduction of inert gas into a tank which is already in an inert condition with the object of further reducing the oxygen content and/or reducing the content of existing hydrocarbon or other flammable vapours to a level below which combustion cannot be supported if air is subsequently introduced into the tank.

扫气是指将惰性气体引入已经处于惰化状态下的货舱以进一步降低氧气浓度和/或降低已有的碳氢化合物或其他可燃气体的浓度至即使后续有空气入舱也不会引起燃烧的水平。

✍ Relative vapour density

相对蒸气密度

The mass of the vapour compared with the mass of an equal volume of air both at standard conditions of temperature and pressure. Thus vapour density of 2.9 means that the vapour is 2.9 times heavier than an equal volume of air under the same physical conditions.

在温度和压力的标准条件下蒸气质量与等体积的空气质量之比。例如相对蒸气密度为2.9，即说明该蒸气比同物理条件下相同体积的空气重2.9倍。

The ratio of the weight of a volume of a substance at a given temperature to the weight of an equal volume of fresh water at the same temperature or at a different given temperature.(Since temperature affects volume the temperature at which a specific gravity comparison is made needs to be known and is stated after the ratio.)

一定温度下一物质单位体积的重量与相等体积和相同温度或不同温度的淡水的重量之比。(因为温度影响体积，在标示比重时须标明其相应的温度)
