I am Katie Nguyen Sales and Operations Director and also co-founder of The Last Co.

The Last Co. aims to change the way people think about single-use products and encourage the adoption of reusable everyday goods.

We create thoughtfully designed functional reusable products that allow us to maintain our lifestyle whilst sustaining our planet.

Our flagship product is Last Straw a reusable and portable telescopic stainless steel straw with keychain case.

We are proud to be members of 1% for the Planet and give at least 1% of our turnover to environmental and social non-profits.

We have designed Last Straw to be zero plastic so that customers offset their single-use plastic straw consumption on its first use. This also includes our packaging which is all fully recyclable. We send all our orders to customers using minimal packaging such as enviro cartons which contain less cardboard and also seal with paper tape. We re-use any cartons where possible when sending orders to trade customers.

Our greatest environmental impact is importing our product from China where it is made to the UK. We import shipments using sea freight rather than airfreight which has a significantly lower carbon footprint. We are also working towards including carbon offsetting as part of our business model in the coming months.

We try to mainly use couriers when sending our product to stockists and customers that are carbon neutral.

1、Trade Shows and Events - We have stand materials designed that we re-use for each event. We keep printed materials to a minimum instead focusing on using social media and collecting e-mail addresses to keep in touch with potential customers.

2、包装：我们确保所有的包装都是最精简并且是可回收的。我们的产品大小经过设计，正好可以在一个纸板展示箱中放下30个。这样零售商就可以重复使用这些箱子来展示我们的产品。而且这样也可以使产品（在箱子里）紧凑安置，便于包装和发货。

2、Packaging - We ensure all packaging we use is minimal and recyclable. We designed our product to fit 30 units in a cardboard display box - which stockists can re-use for displaying the product it also keeps it compact and easy to pack for sending.

I think there is no longer any excuse for sustainability to not be a priority for all businesses. They should be looking to reduce their environmental impact and remove any unnecessary waste that they generate in all aspects of their business. There are good sustainable alternatives that can be used and the costs of these are much more affordable than they once were.

It can be difficult to make changes on a personal level to a more sustainable lifestyle but if everyone tries to make as many small changes as they can by avoiding single-use products and switching to reusable this will make a huge difference to our planet.

比如随身带一根可循环吸管

请您分享3个您在用的好物/行动，是可以帮助践行「可持续」生活方式的。

1、家居用品：当家里使用的所有产品——比如清洁用品或美妆产品用完之后，我们总是会设法用可复用或者有补充装的产品来替换，减少塑料的使用。

2、能源供应商：我们更换了使用可再生能源的厂家作为我们的能源供应商。

3、旅行：我们不再拥有私家车，而是选择以电力为主要能源的共享汽车。我们也减少了搭乘飞机的次数来减少碳足迹。

1、Household products - For all products we use in the home such as cleaning or beauty products whenever anything runs out we always try to replace with a reusable or refillable alternative to reduce on plastic.

2、Energy provider - We have switched our energy supply provider to one that uses renewable energy.

3、Travel - We don't own a car and use a car share scheme that predominantly uses electric vehicles. We have also reduced the number of flights we take to reduce on our carbon footprint.

A big influence and the inspiration behind our business is David Attenborough and the BBC documentary series Blue Planet 2 which really brought to our attention the destruction and environmental impact caused by single use plastic. Predictions such as - by 2050 there could be more plastic than fish in the sea were sobering. This got us thinking of ideas for better alternatives to everyday single-use plastic products - such as straws and this is how the idea for Last Straw was formed.
