In the forthcoming 25th Bond film Lashana Lynch a 31-year-old British actress of Jamaican descent will take over the code name and replace James Bond to become Agent 007 according to a report in the Daily Mail. The actress known for her roles in "Captain Marvel" and "Fast Girls " will be the first black and first female 007 in the history of the franchise if the report is confirmed.

The news came just weeks after it was announced that Halle Bailey a black actress and singer had landed the starring role of Ariel in Disney's live-action remake of "The Little Mermaid."

The film's director Rob Marshall said Bailey had been cast after an "extensive search" and possesses the "rare combination of spirit heart youth innocence and substance" needed to play the role but the choice was met with criticism and opposition online. The hashtag #NotMyAriel even trended on Twitter.

Many net users said the remake should stay true to the 1989 original where Ariel was a blue-eyed and red-haired white girl. Some also pointed out that Disney's choice was catering for "so-called political correctness."

然而黑人朋友们也并不喜欢这一选角。YouTube视频博主“LongBeachGriffy”吐槽：“如果需要更多种族和肤色的代表，迪士尼为什么不去多创造一些黑人新角色？”

“美式中国风”《花木兰》？

另一部迪士尼电影《花木兰》最近也“吸睛无数”。虽然全亚裔的选角阵容得到了认可，但对于最新预告片中对中国风的表达以及影片立意遭到了许多中国观众的质疑。

除了不符合史实的福建土楼以及随意堆砌的中国元素，预告片中“I'll bring honor to us all”的台词更像是在宣扬中世纪的骑士精神，却没能表达出原本乐府诗歌中 “谁说女子不如男”的内核。

在豆瓣上，就有影评人表示：“迪士尼版《花木兰》更像是一道美式中餐‘左宗棠鸡’，虚有其表。”

Another Disney live-action adaption of "Mulan" recently also took the spotlight as its new teaser trailer was released. While many audiences looked forward to the remake after watching the well-made trailer some Chinese viewers showed their disappointment. They argued that the essence of female empowerment expressed in the original Chinese poem "Ballad of Mulan " was not correctly interpreted and some Chinese elements were misunderstood in the trailer.

如何追求“多元化”？

近年来，“多元化”成为了好莱坞影视制作中不可忽视的一大因素。不过让人诟病的是，很多影视作品的“多元化”仅仅是为了迎合特定的观影人群和市场，而不是真正的在作品中展现文化包容性和多样性，也未能消弭文化差异的“鸿沟”。

有网友认为，用所谓“多元化”演员阵容翻拍同样的老故事，却不去创造全新的角色和故事情节，这本身就是一种只为迎合市场的“惰性”。

不过，也有一些成功的案例。比如百老汇热门音乐剧《汉密尔顿》，创新性地用Hip-Hop、R&B和 Jazz来展现厚重的历史——美国开国元勋亚历山大·汉密尔顿的故事。音乐剧还启用了非裔和拉美裔演员班底，不仅贴和主人公汉密尔顿的移民形象，也用一种特殊的方式告诉观众，少数族裔们同样也是美国历史的创造者。

It seems that "diversity" has become an increasingly important factor in Hollywood as filmmakers and industrial heavyweights choose racially diverse casts to remake old classics or shoot some cinematic works based on stories from other cultures. Many felt that the choices were not a real victory for "diversity" but pandering to the market and some audience groups.

However there are some examples that successfully show the diversity like the Tony-winning Broadway hit "Hamilton: An American Musical." Written by Lin-Manual Miranda the musical creatively incorporated hip-hop R&B and Jazz to show the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton. The musical's mostly non-white casting hinted at the founding father's immigrant background and revealed the fact that ethnic minority groups are also the true makers of American history.

从《汉密尔顿》或许可以看出，观众们反对的从来都不是追求“多元化”背景下对经典的改变和颠覆，而是对不同文化“隔靴搔痒”式的解读以及 “新瓶卖旧酒”式的消费经典。
