The King Yu Beat Back the Flood

As everybody knows there had a big flood in the earth. The Noah’s ark「诺亚方舟」 saved Western world. The big flood also destroyed the homeland of ancient China. It rained day by day the stream「小河」 turned into river soon. The Yellow River「黄河」 had full of water and flooded its bank the fields had been covered with water. The animals were drowned「淹死」. Roads were flooded or blocked by landslips「塌方」. It seemed the end of world was coming.

The King Shun had no idea of how to deal with the flood. He had a meeting with all the chieftains「酋长」 and asked for help. The chieftains voted Gun who became the leader of combating the flood.

Gun led people to fight with flood and made the river wall to against「对抗」 the water. The water had higher and higher and the wall had as high as the water too. Unfortunately rivers often change their routes Nine years passed Gun wasted lots of time and work. He failed of combating the flood.

King Shun had the meeting with all the chieftains again. King Shun killed Gun for his failure and let Yu the son of Gun continued to combating of flood.

Yu chose a different way from his father to fight with the water. First he drew the map of the kingdom and found out the highland and the valley. Second he did the research of which the way that water can form highland to the sea. Third he made the plan to connect the river with the lakes and the sea. The most important the kingdom people dug the canal「运河」 with Yu’s idea.

After thirteen years hard work all the rivers flows to the sea and the flood had been beaten back. Yu became the hero in the kingdom. After King Shun died the Yu became the king.
