现在进行时用来表达现在正在做的动作或者存在的状态。常与时间状语now、right、at this moment等连用。

比如：

I am reading a work by Kafka.

我正在读卡夫卡的作品。

除此之外，现在进行时还可以表示某一段时间正在做的事，但说话时未必在做。

比如：

Today the number of people learning English in China is increasing rapidly.

当今在中国学习英语的人数正在迅速增长。

现在进行时与always、constantly等连用，可以表达说话者的感情。

比如：

She is constantly disturbing me.

她总是不停地打扰我。（表达厌烦的情绪）

You are always telling people your story.

你总是给别人讲你的故事。（也是表达厌烦的情绪）

最后一点，短暂性动词没有进行时态，如果用了进行时，不表达正在做，而是表将来。

比如：

The bus is stopping.

车快停下来了。

当然，有些动词是没有进行时态的，分别是：

1.表示心理活动的动词，比如love like hate understand realize hope wish agree，很少会用“be loving sb.”说“正在爱某人”。

2.表达自身属性的动词不用于现在进行时，比如have own possess belong to。总不能说“我正在拥有…”。

3.表达感官的系动词不用于进行时态，比如seem appear look sound taste等等。
