听力材料(Text 1)W: It’s such a large park.
M: Yeah it’s the largest park in the city. And it was rebuilt last year.
W: Where shall we buy the tickets to get in?
M: Oh over there.
(Text 2)M: How was your weekend Nancy?
W: Not too good. I was about to leave for a trip on Saturday morning when I found my kitchen was ruined by the dirty water from the apartment above mine. I spent the whole weekend cleaning.
M: Oh that’s terrible.
(Text 3)W: Tell me about yourself.
M: Well I currently work in the sales department in a bank. My previous job was at the post office. Before that I was a part-time sales assistant at Macy’s Department Store.
(Text 4)W: Would you close your books now? Please remember to write down your name and school number.
M: How long do we have?
W: 90 minutes. If you finish the paper earlier you can leave the room.
(Text 5)W: Excuse me can you tell me where the classical music department is?
M: Sure. It’s down that walkway and to the left. Can I help you find something?
W: Yes. I’m looking for the latest CD by Adam Lambert. I want to buy it for my daughter.
(Text 6)W: They look so healthy and athletic. Are they involved in school sports?
M: Yes they are. My son Don is on the high school swim team. Of course he also lifts weights.
W: He does look quite strong. So does your daughter Patricia. I bet she’s a dancer. Is she studying ballet?
M: No actually ⑦she’s captain of the basketball team.
(Text 7)M: Look ⑧Mum has left a note with housework for us to do while she and Dad are away this weekend.
W: Let’s see — ⑨tidy up the garage and clean up the backyard.
M: She doesn’t say which we should do first.
W: Hey we are not robots! We can make our own plan as long as everything gets done. Read the weather report in the newspaper.
M: Hmmm. Sunny today cloudy tonight probable heavy rain tomorrow. Well that makes it easy. ⑨We work outside today and inside tomorrow.
W: Yep. Let’s get started. I want to go to the supermarket this afternoon.
(Text 8)W: Hello.
M: Good evening. My name is Fred Dooley and I’m calling from the Diet Programme. Did you know that for $9.99 a week …
W: Thanks so much for calling Fred. But you’ve really called me at a bad time.
M: Well um but there’s never a bad time to hear about …
W: Fred your programme sounds interesting but I really can’t talk right now. Hey I’ve got a great idea! Why don’t you give me your phone number and I’ll call you back! I want to be sure I reach you so you’d better give me your home phone number. Oh and you should tell me what time you eat dinner so I can be sure to call you then!
M: I don’t want you to call me while I’m eating dinner. That would be annoying.
W: But you’re calling me at home during my dinner!
M: Well uh …
(Text 9)M: Good evening listeners and welcome to How Green Are You? I’m your host Allen. You can call the hotline to win a cash prize of ten thousand dollars! Let’s meet the first caller now. Hello!
W: Hi I’m Sally.
M: I think you already know the rules: two questions and one true or false question and if you can answer all the questions correctly you’ll win the money. Our first question: What equipment in the kitchen uses the most energy?
W: Is it the stove? No it’s the dish washer. No no it’s the refrigerator.
M: Right. Next question: Besides buying an energy-saving car what can you do to go the farthest using the same gas?
W: You shouldn’t drive your car over the speed limit. Driving fast wastes gas.
M: That’s right! OK. Now I’ll read a statement and you tell me whether it’s true or false. It takes 75 000 trees to print a Sunday edition of The New York Times newspaper.
W: False.
M: Actually that’s true. It takes 75 000 trees to print the Sunday Times and about 90% of all Sunday newspapers read in this country are not recycled. I’m sorry Sally.
(Text 10)W: Welcome to our programme today. Today we have Mr Smith a teacher from Oxford University with us. Welcome Mr Smith.
M: Thank you.
W: Many schools offer a large number of extra activities to students? But why?
M: Well most educators agree that studies of the arts sciences history and maths are only a part of their responsibility of preparing students for their adult lives. One way to do this is to offer a number of possibilities for teenagers to use the special skills they have developed. It also is a good chance to try new and challenging activities that might not have been tried. Sports are helpful in developing healthy bodies and teaching teamwork which can be helpful when people work together on other projects. Competing in sports helps us not only to build our bodies but our minds as well. Reaching a goal and succeeding in a sport can give us confidence.
There are many chances for community service. Helping others does not always mean giving money. It also means giving time and attention to people who need it. By doing something for another person or group of people we feel satisfaction at knowing our efforts are appreciated. We offer many opportunities for community service in our university and if there’re listeners interested in them you can refer to our university’s website.
