Books and Teenagers
Different books are appealing① to people of different ages. Fairy tales and cartoon books are usually for children. Stories and novels of love are written mainly for young people. Books with special purposes such as gardening② and fishing are more welcomed by old people.
The effects of books on teenagers can either be positive or negative. A good book teaches youngsters knowledge exerts a favorable influence on their character and what is more shows them the way when they feel at a loss③. On the contrary books with much description of violence or sex will tempt adolescents④ to fight or commit a sexual crime.
In my opinion teenagers are not supposed to read all kinds of books. Due to a rather limited knowledge of the world teenagers are not experienced and educated enough to tell good from bad or right from wrong. Advice on book selection is helpful for the young. Those who receive proper instruction⑤ on reading books from their parents and teachers are more likely to become good citizens; whereas those who do not get any guidance⑥ may often feel confused or may grow to be the troublemakers⑦ in society.
