Lithium-metal anodes are the most promising electrodes for next-generation high-energy-density batteries. In their Communication on page 7764 ff. Q. Zhang and co-workers employed a nitrogen-doped graphene matrix (lotus leaves) with lithiophilic nucleation sites (sitting frogs) to guide Li (tadpoles) nucleation on an anode surface. The result is a uniform distribution of Li on the anode surface. These dendrite-free lithium-metal anodes exhibit an impressive electrochemical performance.

In article number 1808392 Jia‐Qi Huang and co‐workers develop a single‐ion‐conducting interface consisting of a dual‐layer architecture to protect lithium‐metal anodes. The artificial interface regulates a homogeneous ionic and electric field distribution and simultaneously brings a superior mechanical feature at the surface of the lithium‐metal anode synergistically enabling a highly efficient cell performance in working lithium‐metal batteries.

In article number 1806957 Weiyue Lu Zhen Gu and co‐workers engineer a dual bioresponsive drug‐delivery depot that can respond to the acidic pH and reactive oxygen species within the tumor microenvironment for co‐delivery of anti‐PD1 antibody and an epigenetic modulator. This combination therapy increases the immunogenicity of cancer cells and enhances the antitumor immune response. The pond represents the drug‐delivery depot the duckweeds represent the tumor cells; the red fish (epigenetic agent) and the black fish (aPD1 antibody) work together to eat the duckweeds representing the tumor cells being eliminated.
