这一方面是因为荷花的自然分布已经被打乱了,因为人类的种植,荷花的分布被扩大,能与其相匹配的,具有同样分布范围的传粉者似乎只有蜂类了。而且蜂类是一类泛化的传粉者,又异常勤劳,荷花尽管没有花蜜,但产生大量花粉,对它们也存在吸引力,因此现在蜂类成为了荷花的传粉搭档。
另一方面则是荷花演化历史很长,作为活化石之一,它起初的传粉搭档可能在无数次的环境变化中消亡了。而荷花却活力满满地存活至今,甚至在人类这个新物种崛起之后,搭上了人类迁徙的顺风车,把最初的传粉者甩于身后。
不过,在我们观赏荷花时,看到它硕大亮洁的花瓣,将开未开、数度闭合的含羞形态以及散发出浓郁花香时,还是得感谢小甲虫们帮我们提前“选育”了荷花。
