William Faulkner won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1949.

His books include Absalom Absalom!
The Sound and the Fury and As I lay dying.

He's considered one of the main writers
who helped modernize the 20th century novel.

But his first novel Soldier's Pay
was written right here in Pirates Alley in 1925

and in his letter of resignation in 1923 wrote :
