W: What did you think of the film Jim?
M: Oh Jane there was too much fighting in the film for me but Tom liked it very much.
(Text 2)W: Can you hand me four eggs please?
M: Sure. Do you need anything else?
W: Yes. Give me some sugar and chocolate. Now everything is ready for my super chocolate pie.
(Text 3)M: Are you free on Friday?
W: No Fridays are busy for me. I go to school at 7:00 am. Then at 5:00 pm I start work at a restaurant. I usually work until 11 o'clock at night.
(Text 4)W: I wish that the shuttle bus would hurry and get here. I’m going to be late for my next class.
M: Why don't you just walk there instead?
W: My class is on the other side of the campus. If l walked there it would take about thirty minutes.
(Text 5)M: Hey it's Thursday. You know what that means - The Answer Game.
W: I always know where I'll be Thursday at eight - in front of the TV watching The Answer Game.
M: Those questions they asked last week were really hard weren't they? But that guy answered them all.
(Text 6)W: Excuse me. I purchased this shirt from your store two days ago but it is just too small to wear.
M: Let me see. This is Size M. Will Size L fit you?
W: Yes. And could you also check if that comes in blue? I'd like to buy an extra shirt.
M: Certainly. Oh I’m sorry ma'am. We just ran out of blue. How about a green one? It's a popular color as well!
(Text 7)M: I just got a phone call from Jim. I'm afraid he had to cancel on us again.
W: What? That's the third time this month. And I spent hours cleaning the house and preparing this meal
M: I know. There was nothing he could do though. I just wish he would have called earlier.
W: I guess he still has to put in overtime at work. It's too bad. We never see him anymore.
(Text 8)W: Mike! Look at the floor!
M: What's wrong with it?
W: What's wrong with it! It's dirty!
M: Oh ...
W: It's dirty because you never wipe your shoes.
M: I'm sorry about it.
W: What are you looking for now?
M: My cigarettes.
W: Well they are not here. They are in the dustbin.
M: In the dustbin? Why?
W: Because there's cigarette ash everywhere in the house.
M: I don't drop ash on the floor you know.
W: Oh yes you do! Anyway cigarettes are a waste of money. I hate them.
M: Maybe they are but I earn the money! I work eight hours a day. Remember?
W: Well what about my money then?
M: What do you mean "your money"? You don't go to work do you?
W: No I don't go out to work but I work fifteen hours a day here!
M: Well housework is different.
W: Oh I see ... So housework is different isn't it? Housework doesn't matter! Well you do it then. I’ll go.
M: Hey wait a minute Pat Pat …
(Text 9)M: Good morning.
W: Good morning. Um ... I'm looking for a place to rent near the university.
M: What are you looking for? A house a flat... a room?
W: Well a house of course. There are three of us looking together. We thought we might share if we could find something suitable.
M: So something near the university?
W: Yes if that's at all possible. We are all students so it'd be good if we could find something within walking distance.
M: Are you in your first year?
W: No I’ve been here a year already.
M: OK so let me have a look at what we've got ... Well there's a two-bedroom house in Newtown which is quite cheap.
W: That'll be good because it's very near the university. But if we all want our own rooms it isn't really big enough.
M: Too small. Give that one a miss?
W: Yeah I think so. Got anything else?
M: What about this? Three-bedroom flat close to the university ... It's $400 a week.
W: Oh it's too expensive.
M: Well here's a three-bedroom house with a small garden. It’s near the airport miles from the university but it's reasonably priced at $240 a week. Why don't you go and have a look?
W: All right.
(Text 10)M: Good morning everyone. Thank you for coming along. I'm afraid there is a serious matter which I'm hoping we can clear up as soon as possible. Last night someone broke into the staff room and a number of things are missing. I have already spoken to the police and I trust things will go no further. The police believe that whoever is responsible for the theft is probably a member of this college.
Now the things that are missing. First of all a valuable clock which was presented to the college over a hundred years ago has disappeared. The clock cannot easily be sold as it has the name of the college on the front and would immediately be recognized. A painting of the college by Arnolfini has also been stolen and again this would be easily recognized as it shows the main college buildings.
Now whoever took these objects also broke open the cupboard in the staff room and took some antique glasses eight altogether. These were given to the college many years ago by another director. They could easily get broken and although they were insured they could not be replaced. I'm glad to say the bottles of drink were not removed.
Not surprisingly both the TV and video recorder have been taken. But perhaps the most worrying of all is the fact that the end-of-term examination papers have been stolen from a filing cabinet. If these papers cannot be marked everyone in the college will suffer. Now if you can help or if you have seen or heard anything which ...
