Ripe fruit falls from the trees and you never have to work. The other side of the picture is quite the opposite. Life on a desert island is wretched. You either starve to death or live like Robinson Crusoe waiting for a boat which never comes.

成熟的水果从树上掉下来，人们根本无需劳动。另一种想法恰恰相反，认为荒岛生活很可怕，要么饿死，要么像鲁滨孙那样，天天盼船来，却总没见船影。

（1）have to，must，ought to表示“必须”时的区别

have to和must都能表示“不得不”“必须”，但在使用上有一点区别。

① 表示客观需求时，使用have to的情况要比must多。

have to: 受客观条件或环境迫使而“不得不”做某事，突出客观性。

must: 一般则表示命令或说话人主观认为必须要做某事，含强调语气，侧重主观性。

有时候也使用be 不定式表示需要做某事，但语气较弱一些

I am to do it whether I like it or not.

② must表示客观性的需要时，一般翻译为“总是要（会）”

All men must die. 人故有一死。

③ 虚拟条件句中的必须。

If I had been to live alone on this island. I should have had to work very hard.

④ outht to表示必须时，偏责任，推想等

You ought to work hard.

（2）either ... or ...两种可能性之间的选择

either和or两边的成分应该一致。

Either you leave this house or I’ll call the police.

最后提一下opposite这个单词，形容词表“相反的”，名词表“对立面”。看到这个单词让我想起来一个词组，vice versa。

vice versa是副词，表示“反之亦然”

We gossip about them and vice versa (=they gossip about us). 我们谈论他们 他们也谈论我们。

这个词组在英文写作里还是非常实用的，最好能记住并应用。
