岳麓书院位于湖南省长沙市湘江西岸的岳麓山东面山下，是中国古代传统书院建筑，属于中国历史上著名的四大书院之一。1988年，岳麓书院建筑群被国务院批准为第三批全国重点文物保护单位。

北宋开宝九年(976年)，潭州太守朱洞在僧人办学的基础上，由官府捐资兴建，正式创立岳麓书院。嗣后，历经宋、元、明、清各代，至清末光绪二十九年(1903年)改为湖南高等学堂。

北宋祥符八年(公元1015年)，宋真宗召见山长周式，并赐书"岳麓书院"四字门额。 1926年正式定名为湖南大学。岳麓书院历经千年，弦歌不绝，故世称"千年学府"，现为湖南大学下属学院。

Yuelu Academy is located at the eastern foot of the Mountain Yuelu on the West Bank of Xiangjiang River in Changsha City Hunan Province. It is a academy of Chinese ancient traditional building and one of the four famous academies in Chinese history. In 1988 Yuelu Academy complex was approved by the State Council as the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

In the eighth year of Xiangfu in the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 1015) Song Zhenzong summoned executive directorZhoushi and gave a four character gate of "Yuelu Academy". It was officially named Hunan University in 1926. Yuelu Academy has been known as "Millennium University" for thousands of years and is now a subordinate college of Hunan University.
