Littlefinger陪着Ned在探望Robert的私生女，孩子的妈妈是个很年轻的妓女：
The girl had been so young Ned had not dared to ask her age.
孩子妈对Robert一往情深：
“Tell my king I’ve not been with no one else. I swear it milord by the old gods and new.
Chataya said I could have half a year for the baby and for hoping he’d come back. So you’ll tell him I’m waiting won’t you? I don’t want no jewels or nothing just him. He was always good to me truly.”
Lyanna对Robert的本性是非常了解的，所以Robert再爱她，Ned再和Robert兄弟情深，Lyanna也不愿意嫁给Robert。

英语小说喜欢用抽象的概念表达具体的意思，又或是用具体的意思表达抽象的概念。
例如上文中的“Robert will never keep to one bed”，这是个比较抽象的表达，如果只从字面意思理解，就会理解成Robert不会保持在一张床上。但是根据上下文，我们知道它的具体意思就是：
Robert will never sleep with one woman.
Littlefinger和Ned返回途中遇到Jaime一帮人，Jaime因为Catelyn抓了Tyrion而挑衅Ned。
后来我们都知道，Littlefinger说去找支援而借机远离这场纷争，Jaime一帮人杀了Ned的随从，Ned也身负重伤。
冰与火之歌阅读难点一小丽之前讲过是景色的描写，而难点二就是对打斗和战争的描写，这部讲列国夺权纷争的书，打斗场面的描写不会比景色少。
我们来详细看一下这一段动作戏：
“No!” Ned Stark screamed clawing for his sword. （现在分词作状语）
Jaime was already cantering off down the street as he heard Wyl shout.
（as从句）
Men closed from both sides.
Ned rode one down cutting at phantoms in red cloaks who gave way before him. （现在分词作状语 定语从句）
Jory Cassel put his heels into his mount and charged.
A steel-shod hoof caught a Lannister guardsman in the face with a sickening crunch.（介词短语作方式状语）
A second man reeled away and for an instant Jory was free. （介词短语作时间状语）
Wyl cursed as they pulled himoff his dying horse swords slashing in the rain.（as从句 独立主格）
Ned galloped to him bringing his longsword down on Tregar’s helm. （现在分词作状语）
Jaime was already cantering off down the street as he heard Wyl shout.
（as从句）
The jolt of impact made him grit histeeth.
Tregar stumbled to his knees his lion crestsheared in half blood running down his face. （2个独立主格）
Heward was hacking at the hands that had seized his bridle when a spear caught him in the belly. （定语从句 when从句）
Suddenly Jory was back among them a red rain flying from his sword. （独立主格）
“No!” Ned shouted.
“Jory away!” Ned’s horses lipped under him and came crashing down in the mud. （介词短语作方式状语 介词短语作地点状语）
There was a moment of blinding pain and the taste of blood in his mouth.（of介词短语作后置定语 介词短语作地点状语）
这段一共有17句话，灰底部分呢就是每句的主干。括号里的是除了主干部分的其他内容，是对主干内容的补充，让描写更加生动。
也就是分词作状语、独立主格（在小说中用的非常多），形容词做定语、定语从句，介词作状语。
当我们熟悉了句式结构以后，再去阅读这样的大篇幅文章，有米有发觉思绪就清晰了很多呢。
