During the Han Dynasty (汉代) officials tookone day off every five days. During the Tang Dynasty officials worked for tendays and rested for one day. What did they do on that day? The answer issurprising. They bathed and washed their hair!

ancient Chinese had long hair. They also wore heavy clothes. They needed toclean themselves often so they wouldn’t get sick. Bathing was also a way to show politeness. Confucius (孔子) always took ashower before meeting people.
