By starlight officials conscripting came as message.

The old man fled over the wall

While the old woman was running out of the door.

The official shouted with the great anger

But she cried to utter her suffer.

The woman gave her excuses all

For her three boys engaged in Yecheng War.

Soon a letter delivered from one of them

Said the two had newly died then.

The living dragged out an ignoble existence

And the dead found their ever residence.

There was no one at home to rest

Only is an infant at the breast.

For its mother cannot leave yet

Even there’s no unbroken dress in and out.

I was old and weak

But tonight willing to go for your sake.

Hurry to Heyang to enlist

For I can prepare breakfast.

In the late night the voices vanished

But low and intermittent weeping unfinished.

The next morning on my journey

I bade farewell to the old man only.
