非正式沟通是指正式沟通渠道以外进行的信息传递和交流。在组织中 许多信息是通过非正式沟通渠道获得的。最典型的就是小道消息，它们传播着各种员工所关心的和他们有关的信息。

Informal communication refers to information transmission and exchange outside formal communication channels. In organizations much information is obtained through informal communication channels. The most typical is the grapevine news which spreads all kinds of information that employees are concerned about and related to them.

与正式沟通相比，非正式沟通的优点是:沟通方便，内容广泛，方式灵活，沟通速度快，可传播一些不便正式沟通的信息。而且由于在这种沟通中比较容易把真实的思想、情绪、动机表露出来，因而能提供一些正式沟通中难以获得的信息，管理者要善于利用这种沟通方式。其缺点是:这种沟通比较难控制，传递的信息往往不确定性高，容易传播流言蜚语而混淆视听。所以管理者应当对这种沟通方式予以重视，注意防止和克服其消极的一面。
