Big Mistake

英语在表达上与汉语有很多相似之处,但是也存在许多差异。比如在英语中要表达“错”,我们不仅要知道它的词性是名词、动词、形容词还是副词,还要了解它的同义词和近义词,以及在不同的语境下“错”的不同含义。

在日常生活中,对于以下的句子,我们通常可以做到脱口而出:

1. 对不起!我错怪你了。

2. 抱歉!这是我的错。

3. 你认错人了;你用错了人;她嫁错了人;我坐错了车;您打错了电话。

4. 不要错失良机哟!

5. 你吃错了药吧!

6. 请大家错开高峰期上下班。

7. 大错特错。

8. 千万不要一错再错啦。

9. 我不小心把你的电话号码删掉了。

10. 不好意思,纯属口误/笔误。

11. 我经常把你和你姐弄错,你们俩儿长得太像了。

1.1 mistake /mɪˈsteɪk/ n.

(1). an action or an opinion that is not correct or that produces a result that you did not want (言语或行为上的)错误,失误

Don't blame yourself. We all make mistakes. 别责备自己了。是人都会犯错误。

• You must try to learn from your mistakes. 你得从所犯错误中吸取教训。

• I made the mistake of giving him my address. 我真不该把我的地址给他。

(2). a word figure etc. that is not said or written down correctly (用词或数字等上的)错误,口误,笔误

It's a common mistake among learners of English. 这是学习英语的人常犯的错误。

• Her essay is full of spelling mistakes. 她的文章到处都是拼写错误。

• I took your bag instead of mine by mistake. 我不巧错拿了你的包。

1.2. mistake /mɪˈsteɪk/ (mistook mistaken) vt. not to understand or judge sb./sth. correctly 误会;误解;看错

I mistook her kind advice as an attack. 我把她善意的建议错看成了攻击。

• I think you must be mistaking me for someone else. 我看你准是认错人了。

1.3. mistaken /mɪˈsteɪkən/ adj. wrong in your opinion or judgement 错误的;不正确的

You are completely mistaken about Jane. 你对简的看法完全错了。

• If I am not mistaken she must be sick of you. 要是我没猜错的话,她肯定讨厌你。

1.4. mistakenly /mɪˈsteɪkənli/ adv. 错误地;曲解地,被误解地

He mistakenly believed that his family would stand by him. 他误以为他的家人会支持他。

2.1 wrong /rɒŋ/ adj.

(1). not right or correct 错误的;不对的;不正确的

He was driving on the wrong side of the road. 他开车行驶在道路逆行的一侧。

Sorry I must have dialled the wrong number. 对不起,我一定是拨错电话号码了。

You're holding the camera the wrong way up! 你把照相机拿颠倒了。

(2). not right about sth/sb: mistaken 出错;搞错;有错误

You were wrong about Tom; he's not married at all. 你把汤姆的情况搞错了,他根本就没结婚。

• You think you've beaten me but that's where you're wrong. 你以为已经赢了我了,可你错就错在这里。

• Correct me if I'm wrong (= I may be wrong) but didn't you say you two knew each other? 我若说错了请你纠正,可你不是说过你们彼此认识吗?

(3). causing problems or difficulties; not as it should be 引起问题(麻烦);有毛病;不正常

Is anything wrong? You look worried. 出了什么事?看你愁眉苦脸的样子。

• There's something wrong with the printer. 打印机出了故障。

• I have something wrong with my foot. 我的脚有点儿不对劲。

(4). not suitable right or what you need 不合适的;不适当的;不合意的

He's the wrong person for the job. 他不适合做这项工作。

• We don't want this document falling into the wrong hands. 我们不想让这份文件落入不对路的人手里。

• It was his bad luck to be in the wrong place at the wrong time (= so that he got involved in trouble without intending to). 算他倒霉,在错误的时间出现在错误的地方。

(5). not morally right or honest 不道德;不义;不诚实

This man has done nothing wrong. 这位男子没有做过不正当的事。

• It was wrong of me to get so angry. 我不应该发这么大脾气。

• What's wrong with eating meat? 吃肉有什么不对?

(1). get sb wrong (informal) to not understand correctly what sb means 误会,误解,曲解(某人的意思)

• Don't get me wrong I think he's doing a good job but... 别误解我,我认为他活儿干得不错,不过…

(2). get sth wrong (informal)

No you've got it all wrong. She's his wife. 不,你完全误会了。她是他的妻子。

• I must have got the figures wrong. 我一定是把数字给搞错了。

(3). go wrong

Where did we go wrong with those kids (= what mistakes did we make for them to behave so badly)? 我们在什么地方把这些孩子惯坏了?

My watch keeps going wrong. 我的手表总是出毛病。

The relationship started to go wrong when they moved abroad. 移居国外后,他们的关系开始出现问题了。

(4). you can't go wrong (with sth.) (informal) used to say that something will always be acceptable in a particular situation 绝对不会出错;决不会有问题

For a quick lunch you can't go wrong with pasta. 中午快餐吃意大利面绝对没错。

2.2 wrong /rɒŋ/ n.

1. [U] behaviour that is not honest or morally acceptable 不义行为;欺骗行径;邪恶

Children must be taught the difference between right and wrong. 必须教儿童分清是非。

• Her son can do no wrong in her eyes. 在她眼里,她的儿子不可能做坏事。

2. [C] ( formal ) an act that is not legal honest or morally acceptable 犯罪;欺骗;罪恶

• It is time to forgive past wrongs if progress is to be made. 如果想有进步,现在就该宽恕过去的罪过。

2.3 wrong /rɒŋ/ v. [ usually passive] ( formal ) to treat sb badly or in an unfair way 不公正(或不诚实)对待
